Discover How to Repair Your Smile
I often make the analogy of dentistry as being similar to having a contractor come to your house and have him start to inspect some things and find out is the foundation stable. Are the walls in good shape? Is the plumbing in good order? All those different types of things are similar to what we do in dentistry. Do you have good gum tissue? Do you have cracks in your teeth? Are the fillings that you’ve been chewing on over the year because you’ve been clenching and grinding causing fractures to occur? And if we don’t see those structural problems developing, if we don’t pay attention to the fact they actually are occurring in many, many cases, we may not even be able to keep a smile working for the number of years that you’d like to have.
So ours is a discovery process. Do we have foundational issues? Is it gum-related? Is it tooth support-related? Are the teeth themselves starting to crumble? Are they crumbling because of old fillings that have been left in there too long? Are they starting to crumble because decay and cavities are starting to soften the tooth and it’s breaking apart? How you are taking care of your teeth at home. Are there any ways that we can help you become more effective at trying to keep your teeth? Because all of those things will have an influence on what’s going on from the foundational to the structural, to the types of materials that are used, and the ways that you’re maintaining those teeth. So, we can cover all of that, give you a full package evaluation of what’s happening, and even better, we can coach you and make repairs as needed to help you keep an awesome smile.
