Technology Keeps You Comfortable & Informed

One of Dr. Craig Sommer’s favorite pieces of technology for his extensive dental exams is an intraoral camera. He uses the tiny digital camera to see into every corner of your mouth, with less poking and prodding. This makes your exams more comfortable. In addition, he can use images to:

  • Detect problems like early evidence of decay before it can be seen by the naked eye
  • Show you exactly what is happening in your mouth and better explain your treatment options
  • More easily document the progress of dental treatment
  • Provide visual documentation for insurance claims

He also uses digital X-rays, which are faster and more comfortable than film X-rays and use less radiation too.

Save Time & Stress When You Prepare for Your Dental Exam

Common Questions About Dental Cleanings and Exams

Does insurance cover a dental cleaning and exam?

Most dental insurance policies will allow a patient to visit our holistic dentist’s office twice a year for cleanings and exams without any additional out-of-pocket costs. Still, just to be on the safe side, we can look at your specific benefits ahead of time so there won’t be any financial surprises.

How often should I have a dental cleaning and exam?

Dr. Craig Sommer is a firm believer in the American Dental Association’s recommendation that preventive dental appointments should happen every six months. That way, our team can eliminate any buildup on your teeth and look for signs of emerging disease and decay so that such things can be dealt with early on before they have the opportunity to grow into larger, more costly problems.

What does an oral exam do?

Basically, an oral exam allows Dr. Sommer to detect dental problems for you and address them right away. This is usually the second part of your preventive appointment that follows your cleaning and initial evaluation by your dental hygienist. This is an easy way to attain peace of mind for the next six months.

How soon after a cleaning can I eat?

It all depends on the type of treatment you receive! If you have received a dental sealant, it can take about 48 hours for your teeth to feel back to normal while the sealant takes the shape of your teeth. During that time, we advise avoiding any sticky, gummy, or chewy foods that can potentially break or chip the sealant. If you’ve only had a cleaning, there’s no need to wait to eat after your appointment!
