Biocompatible Dental Materials
What we put in your body matters.

Overview
Every material we introduce into your mouth becomes part of your body's environment. Conventional dentistry has historically prioritized cost and durability over compatibility — using materials that, for some patients, trigger measurable immune responses or introduce toxic compounds. We take a different position: every restoration, adhesive, and filling material we use is chosen with your long-term health in mind.
How we approach material selection
We use BPA-free composite resins for tooth-colored fillings, metal-free ceramic crowns and restorations, and mercury-free alternatives throughout our practice. For patients who want certainty about their individual reactivity, we offer BioComp Labs testing — a sophisticated serum biocompatibility test that evaluates your immune system's response to specific dental materials. Results are returned in a report organized by reactivity level, so we can choose the materials your body will accept best.
The Holistic Perspective
Your body's immune response to dental materials
The field of biological dentistry recognizes that immune reactivity to dental materials is real and measurable. Common materials like certain composite resins, base metals used in crowns, and temporary cements can trigger reactive responses in susceptible patients. Symptoms can be subtle and disconnected from the mouth — fatigue, brain fog, unexplained inflammation. BioComp testing doesn't guess. It measures.
Who This Is For
- Patients with known sensitivities or autoimmune conditions
- Those undergoing significant restorative work who want to ensure material compatibility
- Anyone replacing older metal or amalgam restorations
- Patients pursuing a broader holistic health or detoxification protocol
Before You Schedule
You don't need to guess about what goes in your body. We'll work with you to choose materials that support your health — not just fill your teeth.
Common Questions
Frequently asked questions about biocompatible dental materials in Colorado Springs
What makes a dental material 'biocompatible'?
A biocompatible material is one that does not trigger an immune response, introduce toxic compounds into the body, or cause tissue irritation over time. We choose materials based on published safety data and, when needed, individual immune testing through BioComp Labs.
What is BioComp Labs testing?
BioComp Labs is a blood serum biocompatibility test that measures how your immune system responds to specific dental materials. Results classify each material as highly reactive, moderately reactive, or least reactive for your individual biology — removing guesswork entirely.
Are all composite fillings BPA-free?
No — BPA content varies by manufacturer and formulation. We use only verified BPA-free composites and can provide material specification sheets upon request for any restoration we place.
Are zirconia crowns better than porcelain-fused-to-metal?
For biocompatibility, yes. Zirconia is metal-free, highly biocompatible, extremely durable, and does not cause the gum discoloration sometimes seen with metal-backed crowns. It's our preferred material for most crown applications.
Do I need biocompatibility testing for routine dental work?
Not necessarily. Most patients do very well with our standard biocompatible material selections. Testing is most valuable for patients with autoimmune conditions, complex sensitivities, or those undergoing extensive restorative work where material choice matters most.
